THIS IS A SAMPLE DOCUMENT. PLEASE REVIEW THE PRIVACY POLICY DISPLAYED ON WWW.CAEUS.COM
The following statement explains our policy regarding the personal information we collect about you.
caeus.com is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of its user community.
The intent of this privacy policy is to detail the information caeus.com may gather about individuals who visit its web site, how that information is used, and caeus.com's disclosure practices. Please note that this policy applies only to caeus.com's web sites and not to the web sites of other companies or organisations to which we provide links. The policy also gives you information about cookies; caeus.com and third parties' use of cookies; and how you may reject such cookies.
From time to time, you will be asked to submit personal information about yourself (e.g. name and email address) in order to receive or use services on our web site. By entering your details in the fields requested, you enable caeus.com and its service providers to provide you with the services you select. Whenever you provide such personal information, we will treat that information in accordance with this policy. When using your personal information caeus.com will act in accordance with current legislation and aim to meet current Internet best practice.
caeus.com gathers "site usage" information, such as IP address, browser type/version, referring web page etc., from all visitors to the caeus.com web site. Such data is used in the aggregate, to help determine general usage patterns and fine tune layout in order to ensure that our site is as useful and enjoyable as possible. This "site usage" and statistical information may be made public information at caeus.com's discretion, but any statistics published will never contain any of your personally identifiable information.
[Top]During the course of any visit to caeus.com, the pages you see, along with a short text file called a 'cookie', are downloaded to your computer. Many web sites do this, because cookies enable web site publishers to do useful things like find out whether the computer (and probably its user) has visited the web site before. This is done on a repeat visit by checking to see, and finding, the cookie left there on the last visit. We also use cookies to enable the web site to know whether or not you are logged in at any one time.
A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a web site's computer and stored on your computer's hard drive. Each web site can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser's preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a web site to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites.
Many sites do this whenever a user visits their web site in order to track online traffic flows.
Cookies record information about your online preferences. Users have the opportunity to set their computers to accept all cookies, to notify them when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. The last of these, of course, means that certain personalised services cannot then be provided to that user and accordingly you may not be able to take full advantage of all of the caeus.com features. Each browser is different, so check the "Help" menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences.
Please note that if you have set your computer to reject cookies you will not be able to log in to this web site. For further information on cookies please visit www.aboutcookies.org.
[Top]When you supply any personal information to caeus.com (eg. for membership) we have legal obligations towards you in the way we use those data. We must collect the information fairly, that is, we must explain how we will use it (see the notices on particular webpages that let you know why we are requesting the information) and tell you if we want to pass the information on to anyone else. caeus.com is strongly committed to preventing the spread of spam email and thus will never publish your email address or make it publicly available to any third party without your express permission, nor will we ever send you unsolicited email messages.
To protect your privacy, the password which you select to protect your account is irreversibly encrypted before being stored in our database. This means that it is impossible for you, us or any third party to gain access to your password, and it is for this reason that your password must be reset in the event that you forget it. Please note however that caeus.com cannot accept responsibility for the integrity of the algorithm used to encrypt your password - this is the responsibility of the algorithm's provider.
In general, any information you provide to caeus.com will only be used within caeus.com and by its agents and service providers. caeus.com reserves the right to access and disclose individually identifiable information to comply with applicable laws and lawful government requests, to operate its systems properly or to protect itself or its users. Where practical, caeus.com will attempt to obtain the prior consent of the individual prior to disclosing individually identifiable information. Additionally, if you post or send offensive, inappropriate or objectionable content anywhere on or to caeus.com or otherwise engage in any disruptive behaviour on caeus.com, caeus.com can use whatever information that is available to it about you to stop such behaviour. This may involve informing relevant third parties such as your employer, school/university, e-mail/Internet provider and law enforcement agencies about the content and your behaviour.
We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as you use the service you have requested, and remove it in the event that the purpose has been met, or, in the case of caeus.com membership you no longer wish to continue your registration as a caeus.com member. For safety reasons, however, caeus.com may store messaging transcript data (including message content, member names, times and dates) arising from the use of caeus.com services. Where personal information is held for people who are not yet registered but have taken part in other caeus.com services (e.g. competitions), that information will be held as long as is necessary to ensure that the service is run smoothly. We will ensure that all personal information supplied is held securely, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
In order to provide the best possible service to you and to minimise the potential for inconveniences, caeus.com may take backups of our entire database(s) so that full service can be restored in the shortest time possible in the unlikely event of service interruptions. This is in addition to any unspecified backups which may be performed by any third party hosts and such backups will be stored securely, online or offline, for as long as is deemed necessary to serve their purpose. The security and integrity of any backups performed by third party hosts is the responsibility of that third party host and caeus.com cannot accept any liability for breaches of security or loss of data which occur as a result of such actions.
If you are notified on a caeus.com site that your information may be used to allow caeus.com to contact you for "service administration purposes", this means that caeus.com may contact you for a number of purposes related to the service you have signed up for. For example, we may wish to provide you with password reminders or notify you that the particular service has been suspended for maintenance. We will not contact you for promotional purposes, such as notifying you of improvements to the service or new services on caeus.com unless you specifically agree to be contacted for such purposes at the time you submit your information on the site, or at a later time if you sign up specifically to receive such promotional information.
